Domaine Génot-Boulanger - Pommard Vieilles Vignes 2022
Established in Meursault since 1974, Domaine Génot-Boulanger is an emblematic family estate of the Côte de Beaune, now run by Aude and Guillaume Lavollée. With approximately 22 hectares of vines spread across the Côte de Nuits, Côte de Beaune, and Côte Chalonnaise, the estate cultivates around thirty appellations following a philosophy that favors biodiversity, soil work, and the natural expression of the terroirs. The Pommard Vieilles Vignes comes from three plots totaling 2.22 hectares, located in complementary sectors of the appellation. Les Cras, at the bottom of the slope, benefit from an east-facing exposure and rest on stony scree and pebble soils. Les Vignots and La Chanière, situated on the heights of the village and facing south, have deeper, clay-limestone, and stony soils. This diversity of situations allows combining the generosity of the fruit with a beautiful freshness and a balanced structure. Far from the sometimes austere image of traditional Pommard, this cuvée favors a particularly supple, fleshy, and elegant expression of Pinot Noir.
The Pommard Vieilles Vignes 2022 is made exclusively from Pinot Noir, cultivated in certified organic farming since the 2018 vintage. The harvest is done manually to preserve the integrity of the grapes and select a quality raw material. At the winery, the bunches are fully destemmed before a maceration of two to three weeks, during which fermentation occurs naturally thanks to indigenous yeasts. The extraction is deliberately delicate, relying mainly on gentle pump-overs and limited punch-downs to preserve the finesse of the tannins and aromatic purity. The wine is then aged for twelve months in oak barrels, with only 10 to 15% new wood, followed by an additional six months in stainless steel tanks. This approach develops the complexity and texture of the wine while preserving its fruity brightness, before bottling without filtration. The 2022 vintage, marked in Burgundy by a hot and sunny summer, favored a beautiful ripeness of the grapes, giving rise to generous, balanced, and particularly charming wines.
The Pommard Vieilles Vignes 2022 immediately seduces with its expressive bouquet of ripe cherry, crushed strawberry, and jammy red fruits, accompanied by deeper notes of blackberry and plum. Upon aeration, delicate spicy notes and a subtle sanguine dimension enrich this aromatic palette, adding character without masking the fruit's indulgence. On the palate, the wine surprises with its breadth and suppleness, with a round, enveloping, and remarkably airy texture for the appellation. The tannins are fine and lightly marked, allowing the fruit to express itself freely in an almost velvety texture. The natural freshness of Pinot Noir perfectly balances the richness of the vintage and accompanies a persistent, delicately spicy finish. Already very accessible, this Pommard also has the necessary depth to evolve favorably over several years, gradually developing nuances of undergrowth and soft spices. It will ideally accompany a pink duck breast, lamb tagine with prunes, roasted poultry, veal fillet with mushrooms, or a grilled beef cut.
