Domaine Génot-Boulanger - Pommard 1er Cru Clos Blanc 2022
Established in Meursault since its creation in 1974, Domaine Génot-Boulanger has established itself among the most interesting family estates of the Côte de Beaune, thanks to a demanding approach to viticulture and a constant pursuit of precision. Under the impetus of Aude and Guillaume Lavollée, who joined the estate in 2008, the property has gradually adopted organic farming and low-intervention winemaking to reveal the personality of each of its terroirs. The Pommard Premier Cru Clos Blanc occupies a privileged location at the entrance to the village, on the edge of the Route des Grands Crus, extending the famous climat of the Grands Épenots. Its name comes from the particularly light color of its soils, linked to a strong presence of limestone and clay. The estate owns a small plot of 0.33 hectares, located northeast of the village, at the bottom of the slope. The vines root in a deep clay-limestone soil, marked by the presence of iron and endowed with good water retention capacity. This terroir gives birth to a generous and structured Pommard, whose natural power is accompanied by remarkable roundness and finesse.
The Pommard Premier Cru Clos Blanc 2022 is made exclusively from Pinot Noir, cultivated in certified organic farming since the 2018 vintage. The harvest is carried out manually, with particular attention paid to the maturity and integrity of the grapes. The clusters are fully destemmed before a maceration of two to three weeks, allowing a gradual extraction of aromatic compounds and tannins. Fermentations occur spontaneously thanks to indigenous yeasts, respecting the identity of the terroir and the characteristics of the vintage. The extraction remains deliberately gentle, favoring pump-overs and some carefully controlled punch-downs to preserve the delicacy of Pinot Noir. Aging continues for twelve months in oak barrels, with a limited proportion of 10 to 15% new wood, then an additional six months in stainless steel tanks before bottling without filtration. The 2022 vintage, marked in Burgundy by a hot and sunny summer, produced grapes of beautiful maturity while maintaining particularly attractive freshness and balance.
The Pommard Premier Cru Clos Blanc 2022 expresses all the generosity of its terroir through an intense bouquet of black cherry, blackberry, and wild berries, accompanied by delicate floral and spicy nuances. Upon aeration, touches of sandalwood, musk, and ripe fruits enrich this aromatic palette, revealing a personality both warm and refined. On the palate, the wine stands out for its breadth and depth, with a fleshy, generously fruity body supported by a firm tannic structure. The natural richness of the 2022 vintage brings beautiful density, while the freshness of Pinot Noir retains energy and precision. The tannins, present but well integrated, accompany a long and persistent finish where black fruits extend into spicy and slightly earthy nuances. Still young, this Premier Cru has excellent aging potential and should gradually develop aromas of undergrowth, truffle, and fine leather over the years. It will ideally accompany roasted pigeon, beef fillet with morels, rack of lamb, venison stew, or a fine piece of game bird.
