Domaine Danjou Banessy - La Truffière - White 2024
Domaine Danjou-Banessy is one of the most unique estates in Roussillon, located in Espira-de-l’Agly, in a landscape of schists, marls, limestone, and Mediterranean dryness. Benoît and Sébastien Danjou continue a family story by giving the Catalan terroirs a reading that is both deep, sensitive, and very precise. The estate works with certified organic farming, using biodynamic practices, in search of lively wines, rooted and stripped of all artifice. La Truffière Blanc holds a rare place in the range, as it highlights Carignan Gris, a confidential and heritage grape variety of Roussillon. The plot, located on the "Terres Noires" of Espira-de-l’Agly, covers about 3 hectares and has vines planted before 1940. This context of old vines, low yields, and deep soils gives birth to a white wine of character, very far from simple or merely fruity expressions. Domaine Danjou-Banessy La Truffière Blanc 2024 thus presents itself as a great Mediterranean terroir white, dense, mineral, and deeply original.
The La Truffière Blanc 2024 cuvée is made from 100% Carignan Gris, cultivated on a terroir of black schists and marls resting on a limestone base. This geological combination brings the wine a marked structure, deep tension, and a persistent mineral sensation. The old vines planted before 1940 produce few grapes but offer concentrated, complex, and naturally balanced material. After about 3 hours of pressing, fermentation takes place with indigenous yeasts, followed by spontaneous malolactic fermentation. The 20-month aging in used barrels refines the texture without imposing dominant oak. The wine is neither fined nor filtered, which enhances its direct expression, density, and artisanal dimension. La Truffière Blanc 2024 fits into the category of great southern white wines, both powerful, saline, deep, and designed for aging.
On tasting, Domaine Danjou-Banessy La Truffière Blanc 2024 offers a clear golden robe, bright, announcing a white wine of substance and relief. The nose may evoke ripe pear, yellow apple, quince, candied citrus, dried flowers, almond, warm stone, and a slightly smoky nuance. On the palate, the wine is ample, structured, and mineral, with a density that recalls the Mediterranean origin of the grape. The freshness remains very present, supported by the limestone base and a saline finish that stretches the wine long. Aging in used barrels brings a discreet patina, more perceptible in the texture than in the woody aromas. This white will ideally accompany roasted poultry, a noble fish with cream, scallops, morel pasta, mushroom risotto, truffled cuisine, or aged sheep cheese. It can be enjoyed after moderate aeration but will gain complexity with several years of cellar aging.
