The Bitter Truth company produces bitters, liqueurs, and cocktail spirits. The company is located in Germany and was founded in 2006 by Stephan Berg and Alexander Hauck , two bartenders from Munich. They had already gained considerable experience in producing homemade cocktail bitters for the bars they worked in. In addition, Stephan owned a large collection of current and historical bitters, some of which had not been produced for decades. Thus, he knew the taste of the world's most famous bitters and was considered an expert in this field. Their criteria for choosing flavors were mainly provided by old cocktail recipes that could no longer be produced faithfully to the original.

Bogart's Bitters was the first bitter mentioned in the very first cocktail book published in 1862, written by the most famous bartender of the time: Jerry Thomas. It offers notes of sweet spices, chocolatey coffee, and herbs.
