KOPKE - Porto - Fine Ruby
Kopke is recognized as the oldest Port House, founded in 1638 in Portugal. This prestigious house, founded by Nicolau Köpke, then general consul of the Hanseatic League (a historic network of merchant cities in Northern Europe), passes down an ancestral tradition of know-how and excellence. From 1640, Kopke shipped its first bottles of Port to Northern Europe after leaving Hamburg to settle in Portugal, thus consolidating its international reputation. In 1781, the Kopke house acquired a vineyard in the Douro Valley, an emblematic region known for its exceptional terroirs, and transitioned from exporter to producer, focusing on fortified Port wines, becoming a benchmark among exceptional Port wines.
The Kopke Fine Port range embodies the perfect balance resulting from a meticulous blend of young Port wines from several harvests and matured to varying degrees in stainless steel and oak barrels, with a minimum aging of 3 years. This range includes several essential styles: Tawny, Ruby, and White, each displaying the typicity of the Douro terroir and Kopke’s unique mastery in the art of Port.
The Fine Ruby is made exclusively from traditional Douro grape varieties such as Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Barroca, Tinta Cão, Tinta Roriz, hand-harvested to preserve all their quality. After traditional destemming and crushing, controlled maceration and fermentation in stainless steel tanks achieve the ideal sweetness, before fortification with grape spirit to fix the authenticity and typicity of the aromas. This generous Port reveals a rich texture and balanced sweetness with 102 g/L of residual sugar, offering an intense tasting experience, ideal for fortified wine lovers.
