The Glen Grant distillery is ideally located in Rothes, in the heart of the prestigious Speyside region of Scotland, the birthplace of the world's most refined malt whiskies. Founded in 1840 by brothers John and James Grant, two former distillers with a past as illegal smugglers, this distillery quickly established itself thanks to their determination to obtain an official license to legitimize distillation. In 1872, after the founders' deaths, it was the young James "The Major" Grant, born in 1847, who inherited this family business and the prestigious "Glengrant" name passed down by his uncle John Grant. A true visionary and innovator, he was a pioneer in the whisky industry, introducing avant-garde practices inspired by his many travels around the world. James Grant, famous for being the first man from the Highlands to own a car, brought unprecedented modernity to Glen Grant: the distillery was the first to adopt electric lighting, a revolution at the time, and to use unique slender stills and purifiers, thus creating the fresh malty flavor and the clear hue emblematic of Glen Grant whisky. This exceptional know-how continues today, making Glen Grant a must-have for lovers of non-peated whisky.
