The Glen Grant distillery is ideally located in Rothes, in the heart of the prestigious Speyside region in Scotland, the birthplace of the world's greatest single malt whiskies. Founded in 1840 by the visionary brothers John and James Grant, two former distillers and enlightened smugglers who legitimized their expertise by obtaining an official distillation license. After the founders' death in 1872, it was the young and dynamic James "The Major" Grant, born in 1847, who took over the reins of the distillery. Heir to the family tradition and the prestigious name "Glengrant," he embodied the innovative and bold spirit of the house. A true pioneer, passionate innovator, traveler, and exceptional socializer, he revolutionized whisky production by introducing major advances: Glen Grant was thus the first distillery in the Highlands to be equipped with electric lighting and to use slender stills and unique purifiers. These technical innovations allowed the development of the fresh malty flavor and crystalline clarity that today make Glen Grant whisky world-renowned.
