Quinta do Noval - Vintage Port 2000
Quinta do Noval is a prestigious Port house founded in 1715, renowned for being one of the few located directly in the heart of the Douro Valley, rather than in Vila Nova de Gaia, Portugal. Its iconic name comes from its legendary vineyard, Quinta do Noval. The vineyards of the quinta are mainly composed of the noble grape varieties traditionally grown in the Douro region: Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, and Tinta Cao. These exceptional grapes grow on a terroir combining schist and clay soils, where the abundant presence of rocks considerably complicates the harvest for experienced winemakers. A meticulous and large-scale replanting was launched in 1994, with the precise selection of each grape variety according to soil characteristics, altitude, and sun exposure. At the heart of Quinta do Noval lies a rare plot of ungrafted vines, a true treasure that escaped the devastating phylloxera attack in the 19th century. Since 1993, the AXA Millésimes group has entrusted general management to Christian Seely, a recognized expert who also oversees many prestigious estates across Europe, including Château Pichon-Longueville, Château Pibran, and the famous Hungarian estate Disznókő.
This Vintage Port 2000 is vinified according to the most authentic traditional methods: the grapes are carefully trodden to extract the must, then fermented in lagares, the typical stone vats of the Quinta, ensuring optimal maceration to extract all the aromatic richness and depth of tannins. The wine is then aged for 18 months in wooden barrels with a minimum capacity of 640 liters, allowing a slow and harmonious refinement offering exceptional complexity.
