Clos des Spiritueux presents to you The Shed Distillery, an iconic distillery nestled by a picturesque lake in Drumshanbo, Ireland. Founded by PJ and Denise Rigney, this artisanal distillery stands out for its unique expertise and passionate team who boldly explore wild cereals, authentic Irish flora, and carefully selected exotic plants to create exceptional spirits. The Shed has five traditional copper stills: three dedicated to Irish whiskey production, two specially designed for Drumshanbo Gunpowder Irish Gin, as well as two copper column stills dedicated to the Irish vodka Sausage Tree Pure. These custom stills, made by German craftsman Arnold Holstein, guarantee quality and authenticity in every distillation carried out in Drumshanbo.
The production of Gunpowder Irish Gin follows a rigorous artisanal process, beginning with a slow copper distillation incorporating 8 carefully selected botanicals: juniper berries, meadowsweet, cardamom, coriander seeds, angelica root, iris root, caraway seeds, and star anise. This subtle blend of plants gives the gin its unique, fresh, and complex character. Then, 4 additional plants are added in the vapor basket to enhance the aromas: "gunpowder" tea known for its typical smoky notes, Chinese lemon, oriental grapefruit, and kaffir lime, bringing a zesty and vibrant lift.
The creature illustrated on the label, inspired by a mythological descent between a hare and an American antelope, symbolizes the union of traditions and innovations. According to local legend, this creature was conceived in the heart of a storm, a powerful metaphor for the strength and magic found in every bottle of this exceptional Irish gin.
