The Springbank Distillery is one of the last two authentic distilleries still operating in the iconic Campbeltown region, located on the Kintyre peninsula in the southwest of Scotland. Renowned for its ancestral know-how, it produces exceptional Single Malt whiskies under three unique labels, each showcasing a distinct style: Springbank, Longrow, and Hazelburn. Founded in 1828 by pioneers Archibald and Hugh Mitchell, this historic distillery was the 14th to obtain a license in Campbeltown. By 1934, only Springbank and Glen Scotia remained, marking the decline of local distilleries. Today, Springbank proudly remains in the hands of the direct descendants of the founders, ensuring an uninterrupted tradition. Unique in Scotland, this distillery controls the entire production process on-site, from traditional barley malting to bottling, offering unparalleled quality control. This artisanal approach allows full exploitation of the local climate and careful cask selection to create three inimitable Single Malt styles. The parent company, JA Mitchell & Sons, also revived the Glengyle distillery in 2004, producer of Kilkerran whiskies. Additionally, the group includes the renowned independent bottler Cadenhead’s.
The heavily peated Single Malts are marketed under the prestigious Longrow brand. The first editions, distilled as early as 1973, aimed to demonstrate that a Single Malt in the characteristic spirit of the Isle of Islay could be made on the Scottish mainland.
Longrow Red is always bottled without chill filtration or dilution, preserving all the aromatic richness of the cask. Produced annually in limited editions, each version uses a different red wine cask to perfect its maturation. This ninth edition of Longrow Red is a peated masterpiece that has benefited from 7 years aging in Bourbon casks, followed by a unique maturation of 3 years in Malbec barrels sourced from multiple fills of the prestigious De Toren Private Cellar warehouses in Stellenbosch, South Africa. This edition is strictly limited to 10,000 bottles worldwide, emphasizing its exclusivity.
