Rum - LA MAUNY 1984
The emblematic history of La Mauny begins in 1749, when Joseph Ferdinand Poulain, Count of Mauny, acquired the lands of Rivière-Pilote, then operated as a sugar plantation with a traditional estate. Initially a modest producer of Tafia, the ancestor of rum, the estate evolved significantly in the 1920s thanks to the ambition of the Bellonie brothers, who modernized the distillery by replacing the old pot still with an innovative Creole column. This transformation allowed La Mauny to produce exceptional rums, even though the quantity remained limited in the face of a growing local demand, particularly passionate about their refined products.
In the 1950s, this estate, located in the southernmost part of Martinique, experienced remarkable expansion, moving from a local market to international renown. A key player in the creation of the Martinique Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée (AOC), La Mauny was rewarded as early as 1996 with this prestigious recognition, a clear sign of the superior quality and authentic tradition that characterize its rums.
Clos des Spiritueux is honored to present this masterpiece: a 1984 rum from the House of La Mauny. The sugarcane used comes 70% from the estate itself, while the remaining 30% comes from small local producers committed to responsible and sustainable agriculture. Unlike the majority of rums made from molasses (a by-product of sugar production), this rum is made from freshly crushed cane juice, ensuring incomparable purity and finesse. This exceptional bottle contains a true olfactory treasure, where rich and complex aromas are intensely expressed—a fragment of history purring in every sip.
