Frédéric Bourgoin is a passionate winemaker in Saint Saturnin in Charente (France), at the heart of the prestigious cognac production region. He crafts, with his family team at the Clos des Spiritueux estate, exceptional cognacs that are unique both in their authenticity and originality. The family vineyard, proudly bearing the BOURGOIN name since 1930, now extends over the prestigious crus of premiers bois, petite champagne, and fins bois, symbols of the superior quality of the Charente terroir. The unique ambition of Clos des Spiritueux is to help French enthusiasts rediscover the authentic taste of a true winemaker's cognac, rich in character and precision.
"I mainly claim the terroir of premiers bois, a rare and precious cru too often forgotten since the original 1909 map. This terroir benefits from exceptional Upper Cretaceous (middle Cenomanian) subsoils, true settings for the optimal aging of eaux-de-vie. My persistent approach is to produce "natural" cognacs that fully express the soul of the terroir where they were born."
Natural here means: without artificial blending, without chemical or mechanical filtration, without added colorants, and without any added sugars. Each cognac is bottled by vintage, by parcel, and by barrel, guaranteeing rigorous traceability and a unique aromatic richness. Older vintages are offered at their full strength, for tasting as close as possible to their authenticity.
Reductions on young eaux-de-vie are always made with distilled rainwater, carefully chosen to optimize the preservation and expression of aromas. Racking is done according to the lunar cycle and by gravity, a natural process that preserves the fluidity and purity of the cognacs, thus eliminating any superfluous and aggressive filtration.
Bottling is done 100% by hand directly at the Clos des Spiritueux estate, ensuring artisanal control at every step. "I dedicate my cognacs to passionate wine merchants, top gastronomic restaurants, and experts in high mixology." Quantities remain very limited, but pleasure and quality are always guaranteed.
Our emblematic cuvée? MICROBARRIQUE 1994 in 35cl format at 43% vol. This is an extraordinary 1994 vintage cognac, whose aging is enhanced by a finish in a 10-liter micro-barrel, made using the unique crocodile bousinage technique (flame touching for 55 seconds). The nose and palate reveal an intense aromatic palette with tropical notes: bourbon vanilla, jammy strawberry, roasted pineapple, and overripe mango, for an unforgettable tasting experience.
