Swell by Spirits is an independent, family-run bottler based in Pessac, France. The company was created in 2021 by Michael Barbaria and Kelly . They publish a variety of limited editions, bottles of rum but also of whiskey, armagnac, cognac, calvados...from distilleries all over the world. Always with a rather remarkable quality of selection!
Private Garden No. 1 is here Inaugural vintage and the first traffic jam Clos des Spirits . Fabien , founder of Clos des Millésimes opened on September 15, 2022 a new boutique 100% dedicated to spirits. To celebrate, and with the precious help of Michael from Swell by Spirits , they created hand in hand a traffic jam for the occasion. Here is a 22 year old rum from the distillery TDL in Trinidad. The rum was distilled in 2000, aged 15 years in Trinidad and 7 years in the UK then bottled in June 2022. 356 bottles have been produced. We are on a single cask and bottled at its natural strength of 57.5%.
Special work was also done on the label with the creation of a new collection at Swell de Spirits: Private Garden . This first edition therefore represents the emblematic flower and the symbol of the island of Trinidad and Tobago, the flower The Chaconia ( in Latin Warszewiczia coccinea ). The golden color was wanted to also recall the colors of our shop which are black and gold. Congratulations again to the illustrator who did a remarkable job.
Fabien's tasting comment: "We have worked for many months with Michael in order to offer a bottle that is a little different for this event which will only happen once, namely the accomplishment of several years of work with the opening of this pretty shop dedicated to spirits. So we needed a nice bottling. Michael is in my eyes a magician, a finder of nuggets with one of the most beautiful palates I know. From the first tasting, we and my team understood what we had to do with a remarkable rum. One of the most complex molasses rums that I know. With a good aeration and a few minutes in the glass we have there a juice with a multitude of aromas: red fruits whose blackcurrant, terrified notes, cocoa, roasted hazelnuts but also freshness with white mint.The balance is there, the alcohol perfectly integrated and a length...we enjoy each sip and each of between it brings a r again..."
This rum is available for free tasting in our new boutique, Le Clos des Spiritueux, which is located at 93 Quai de Bacalan in Bordeaux. Located in front of the Cité du Vin tram stop (line B) and next to the Pont Chaban Delmas.
