Domaine de Pallus - Cabernet Franc Chinon 2023
The Domaine de Pallus is located in Cravant-les-Côteaux, in the heart of the prestigious Chinon appellation, in the Loire Valley. The Chinon appellation covers approximately 2,500 hectares, mainly planted with Cabernet Franc, the emblematic grape variety of the area. The village of Cravant-les-Côteaux represents nearly 750 hectares, of which only 70 hectares are considered superior crus located on the hillside. Domaine de Pallus cultivates 12 hectares ideally situated exclusively on the hillsides, among the finest terroirs of the appellation. After several generations, Bertrand Sourdais took over the management of the estate with the clear ambition to reveal all the nobility and historical potential of Cabernet Franc, to elevate these wines to the rank of true great crus of Chinon. The vineyard has been managed with certified organic farming since 2009, with precise soil work and controlled yields.
Domaine de Pallus - Cabernet Franc Chinon 2023 The cuvée Cabernet Franc Chinon 2023 comes from a 2.70-hectare plot, planted on particularly high-quality sandy-limestone hillsides. This terroir, blending sand and limestone, promotes aromatic finesse, mineral tension, and structural depth. Made exclusively from Cabernet Franc, this cuvée highlights the purity of the grape variety and the vertical expression of the hillsides of Cravant-les-Côteaux. The 2023 vintage, marked by beautiful ripeness and good climatic balance, results in a wine that is both structured, elegant, and precise. The vinification is conducted with rigor to preserve the varietal character and the identity of the place.
On tasting, the wine reveals an expressive nose of fresh red and black fruits, enhanced by floral and slightly spicy notes. The palate is structured yet elegant, supported by a fine tannic framework and a beautiful freshness typical of great hillside Chinons. The limestone minerality brings tension and length to the whole, reinforcing the sensation of depth. The balance between concentration and finesse gives this wine a true aging potential. It will ideally accompany grilled meats, stewed dishes, or characterful cuisine, while being able to evolve harmoniously for several years in the cellar.
