Velier was founded in 1947 by Casimiro Chaix, in the historic city of Genoa in Italy, a strategic point for the importation of wines and spirits. From 1953, with his partner Arturo Lupi, they launched a company specializing in the classic import of wines, spirits, champagne, grappa, as well as tea and cocoa. In 1983, Gian Luca Gargano, then marketing director of Spirit SpA, the largest Italian import company, joined the venture. Three years later, in 1985, Velier focused on the exclusive import of the finest spirits, mainly targeting high-end restaurants and renowned wine bars. A true pioneer, Velier became in 1988 the first Italian company to introduce New World wines to the national market. From 1992, the company diversified its offer by rigorously selecting prestigious casks of old Single Malts and exceptional rums, then launched its brand in 1995, marking a major turning point in the world of rare spirits.
