The Warenghem Distillery is an iconic house founded in Lannion, on the famous Pink Granite Coast in Brittany, at the end of the 19th century by the Warenghem family. Léon Warenghem, originally from northern France, started the family tradition with exceptional herbal liqueurs: the Elixir of Armorique, made from 35 plants, quickly became the distillery's flagship reference.
In 1967, Paul-Henri Warenghem, the last heir of the line, partnered with Yves Leizour to diversify the liqueur offerings and support the development of Breton large-scale retail. From 1974, the distillery was moved to the entrance of Lannion, in the immediate vicinity of the pure Rest Avel spring, meaning "the home of the wind" in Breton.
In the early 1980s, Gilles Leizour, a pharmacist and passionate about innovation, succeeded his father and gave new momentum to the distillery. He focused on the authenticity of regional products and notably created the famous Melmor chouchen. In 1983, he revolutionized the sector by launching the very first 100% Breton and French whisky. In a constant quest for improvement, he inaugurated in 1993 a distillery entirely dedicated to whisky, equipped with two copper stills inspired by Scottish models. The result materialized in 1998 with the launch of Armorik, the first Single Malt of Brittany and France.
In 2016, after a remarkable career, Gilles Leizour passed the torch to David Roussier, his son-in-law, involved in the company since 2009, to perpetuate Breton excellence and amplify the distillery's influence.
