Frédéric Bourgoin is a passionate winemaker in Saint Saturnin in Charente, the historic heart of cognac production in France. On his family estate, he crafts unique and atypical cognacs with his family, combining authenticity and modernity. His philosophy is based on a 100% natural viticultural and winemaking approach, complete transparency in his methods, and a touch of controlled innovation, giving birth to exceptional eaux-de-vie.
The family vineyard has borne the name BOURGOIN since 1930 and today covers the prestigious crus of Premiers Bois, Petite Champagne, and Fins Bois. Their goal is clear: to restore to French enthusiasts the true taste of a winemaker's cognac, rooted in its terroir and respectful of ancestral traditions.
"I mainly highlight the terroir of Premiers Bois, a confidential and often little-known cru since the official map of 1909. This terroir benefits from remarkable subsoils dating from the Upper Cretaceous (Middle Cenomanian), which give our cognacs an originality and finesse that are incomparable. I strive to produce 'natural' cognacs fully expressing the unique character of the terroir where they were born."
Natural, meaning? Without blending, without filtration, without added coloring or sugar. Each cognac is bottled vintage by vintage, parcel by parcel, barrel by barrel. The old vintages are offered at their natural strength, revealing their unique richness and complexity.
Reductions on young eaux-de-vie are made exclusively with distilled rainwater to optimize freshness and aromatic persistence. Racking is done in moon quadrature, by gravity, thus preserving the purity of the liquid and avoiding any abrupt and aggressive filtration.
Bottling is done entirely by hand, directly on the estate. "I reserve my cognacs for demanding wine merchants, gourmet restaurants, and high-end mixology." Note that the quantities produced are very limited, but the quality and intensity of flavors are always present.
Our emblematic cuvée? MICROBARRIQUE 1994 35cl at 43% vol. An atypical vintage cognac whose aging is enhanced by a finish in a 10-liter micro-barrel, incorporating crocodile charring (55 seconds of direct flame). The nose and palate offer a captivating bouquet of tropical aromas: bourbon vanilla, jammy strawberry, roasted pineapple, and overripe mango, for an unforgettable sensory experience.
