Mas de la Séranne - In the Shade of the Fig Tree 2024
The Mas de la Séranne is a family estate located in the heart of the Languedoc, in the Gignac area, benefiting from a preserved natural environment between garrigue and Mediterranean influences. The vineyard rests on typical yellow marls of Gignac, with sandy-clay-silty textures, which bring freshness, suppleness, and richness to the wines. The work in the vineyard is carried out with common sense and regularity, seeking balance and immediate pleasure rather than demonstration. The estate claims accessible, sincere, and friendly wines, faithful to the spirit of a lively and generous Languedoc. This philosophy is reflected in frank, readable cuvées designed for sharing. Mas de la Séranne thus fits into a tradition of everyday wines, well made and deeply rooted in their territory.
The cuvée In the Shade of the Fig Tree 2024 takes its name from an old fig tree located at the end of the vineyard, which provides its benevolent shade to the harvesters during summer breaks, while offering its fruits. This symbol of conviviality perfectly sums up the spirit of this wine, conceived as a summer wine, a wine for friends and relaxed parties, a pleasure wine par excellence. The blend combines Cinsault, Mourvèdre, Syrah, Grenache, and Carignan, each bringing freshness, fruit, structure, and richness. The vinification is based on traditional fermentation with macerations of 10 to 15 days depending on the grape varieties, followed by a 6-month aging in tank, to preserve the crispness of the fruit and drinkability. The 2024 vintage is immediately accessible, balanced, and decidedly joyful.
On tasting, the color shows a brilliant purplish red. The nose is expressive, dominated by crisp red fruits, cherry, licorice stick, and a beautiful peppery note, with a touch of blackberry on the finish. The palate is crunchy, tangy, fleshy, and thirst-quenching, offering natural balance and great ease of tasting. It is a wine that drinks obviously well, whose only flaw is to finish too quickly. Ready to drink now, it can nevertheless be kept for a few years thanks to its structure. It pairs with all meals, from white or red meats to starters, and even some fish, and proves ideal for warm days around grilled dishes, tapas, and dinner aperitifs.
