Domaine Andrée - Les Mines 2020
Domaine Andrée, founded by Stéphane Erissé in Saint Cyr-en-Bourg, embodies the Loire Valley's high standards for Cabernet Franc. The vines are cultivated using respectful viticulture, with precise soil cultivation and measured yields to promote natural concentration. The estate's wines are distinguished by a clear interpretation of the terroir and a pure aesthetic, always serving the table and aging.
Les Mines 2020 is a single-plot cuvée from a dark Anjou hillside whose soils are rich in schist and carbon elements inspired its name. A controlled solar vintage, hand-picked in small crates, and rigorous sorting. Majority of the grapes are destemmed, followed by gentle maceration to preserve the fruit and natural fermentation. Aged for approximately 18 to 24 months in barrels previously used for several wines, without excessive oak, then left to rest in the bottle before being released. Limited production, with a few magnums reserved for the finest restaurants.
The nose opens with a bouquet of violet, fresh blackberry and blackcurrant, joined by notes of graphite, blond tobacco leaf and a hint of sweet spices. The palate displays a straightforward and sapid attack, carried by a fine and chiseled tannic structure. The heart of the palate combines juicy black fruits, a touch of morello cherry, reminiscences of cocoa and a discreet salinity that stretches the profile. The finish gains depth with smoky and stony accents, long, precise, with a Loire freshness that signs the terroir.
At the table, choose a roast veal chop, a pink squab with a short jus, a confit shoulder of lamb, or a pikeperch with bacon and a red wine reduction. An obvious regional pairing with an aged Anjou goat's cheese or a 24-month Comté to play with texture. Serve between 15 and 16°C in a wide-mouthed glass. Open the bottle one hour before serving or gently decant to soften the tannins. Estimated aging potential of eight to twelve years depending on cellar conditions.
