Domaine de Montgilet – The Crossroads of Schists – Anjou White 2024
Located in Juigné-sur-Loire, at the gates of Angers, Domaine de Montgilet is an emblematic family estate of the Anjou vineyard, operated for over a century by the Lebreton family. Today managed by the sixth generation, it covers approximately 65 to 70 hectares spread over a mosaic of schistous terroirs typical of the Anjou noir. This unique geological heritage, combined with committed and certified organic viticulture, allows the estate to produce precise, distinctive, and accessible wines. The "La Croisée des Schistes" cuvée perfectly embodies this soil diversity and the desire to highlight the expression of the terroir. It is part of a range that highlights the nuances of schists, true mineral signatures of Montgilet wines.
Originating from plots planted on schist soils of the Armorican Massif, this cuvée benefits from a terroir capable of capturing daytime heat and gradually releasing it during the night, promoting a homogeneous and regular ripening of the grapes. This natural phenomenon gives the wine a beautiful concentration while preserving its freshness. On tasting, the wine reveals an elegant aromatic profile, marked by notes of white fruits, citrus, and flowers, accompanied by a characteristic mineral tension. The palate is both ample and structured, supported by a fine acidity that balances the body and extends the finish. Overall, it offers a precise wine, both accessible and endowed with a true personality, faithful to the identity of the great Chenins of the Loire Valley.
This dry white wine is particularly appreciated for its gastronomic versatility. It pairs perfectly with grilled fish, seafood, poultry in light sauces, or goat cheeses, an essential regional specialty. Served chilled, it reveals all its liveliness and aromatic finesse while maintaining a good capacity for aging over a few years. Accessible in its youth but capable of gaining complexity, it represents an excellent entry point into the world of Anjou Chenins. Its particularly attractive quality-price ratio also makes it a relevant choice for regular consumption as well as for enriching a cellar.
