The Domaine des Roches is a historic and confidential address in Chinon, carried by Alain and Jérôme Lenoir, pioneering figures of natural wine in the Loire. Established on the Chinon hillsides, the Lenoir brothers very early chose a free and committed viticulture, long before the movement was recognized. Their work is based on a peasant approach to wine, respectful of the soils and the grapes, with a constant search for sincerity and expression of the place. The estate was built far from commercial standards, favoring lively wines, without artifice, which have now become cult favorites for lovers of authentic wines. The estate's older vintages are particularly sought after for their ability to age with astonishing energy.
This Chinon red 1985 is a rare testimony to the know-how of the Lenoir brothers and the longevity of great natural wines when made with rigor. Made from Cabernet Franc, the emblematic grape variety of the appellation, this wine was vinified in a natural spirit, without unnecessary additives, to fully express the grape and the terroir. The 1985 vintage, now fully mature, perfectly illustrates the estate's philosophy: to produce wines capable of aging gracefully, never losing their identity. This bottle is both a wine and a piece of Chinon natural wine history, rare and precious.
On tasting, this Chinon 1985 offers a polished, deep, and moving expression. The nose reveals notes of evolved red fruits, undergrowth, fine leather, and soft spices, with an earthy dimension typical of great mature Cabernet Francs. The palate is supple, smooth, and surprisingly lively, supported by freshness still present and fully integrated tannins. The whole is harmonious, without heaviness, with a long and delicate finish. This wine pairs beautifully with simple and authentic cuisine, stewed meats, a mushroom dish, or regional cooking. A bottle for contemplation, to be opened with respect, telling a story of a place, a time, and a pioneering vision of natural wine.
The bottles from this estate are delivered to us directly from the estate, coming from stocks stored in their underground cellar. The condition of the labels is not always perfect. There are sometimes red marks on them due to rubbing of the labels in racks and boxes. Levels are sometimes slightly low. This natural wine cannot be replaced or refunded in case of organoleptic defects. A photo can be sent to you upon simple request.
