Warenghem / Armorik Distillery - Chouchen - Mead - Heritage of the Druids - 13% | Clos des Spiritueux
The Warenghem distillery, located in Lannion on the famous Pink Granite Coast in Brittany, is an essential reference in the world of French artisanal spirits. Founded at the end of the 19th century by the Warenghem family, the house quickly gained fame thanks to its Elixir d’Armorique, a unique liqueur resulting from a blend of 35 aromatic plants. The adventure continued in 1967, when Paul-Henri Warenghem partnered with Yves Leizour. Together, they diversified the range of traditional liqueurs and supported the growth of regional distribution.
In 1974, the Warenghem distillery established itself at the entrance of Lannion, benefiting from the purity of the Rest Avel spring, an exceptional asset that imparts quality and distinctiveness to the spirits produced. Under the impetus of Gilles Leizour in the 1980s, a shift towards authentic regional products took place, notably with the creation of the famous Melmor chouchen, as well as the launch of the very first 100% Breton and French whisky in 1983. This expertise, refined by the construction of a distillery entirely dedicated to whisky and equipped with stills inspired by Scotland, resulted in 1998 in the creation of Armorik, the first French Single Malt, a symbol of Breton excellence in the world of whisky.
After Gilles Leizour’s retirement in 2016, it was David Roussier, his son-in-law, who passionately continued the family tradition. The Warenghem distillery thus remains an emblematic figure of Breton craftsmanship, embodying heritage and a demand for quality, now showcased on Clos des Spiritueux.
Heritage of the Druids represents the very essence of chouchen, the quintessential Breton mead. Crafted according to an ancestral recipe, this nectar is the result of fermenting pure water drawn directly from the distillery’s spring, combined with a subtle blend of mountain honeys and forest honeys, offering a rich, floral, and delicately scented aromatic palette. Ideal for discovering Celtic traditions through an authentic tasting, Heritage of the Druids captivates with its finesse and natural sweetness, available at Clos des Spiritueux — your reference for online purchase of exceptional chouchen, mead, and Breton spirits.
