The Warenghem distillery was founded in Lannion, on the Pink Granite Coast in Brittany , at the end of the 19th century, by the Warenghem family. Léon Warenghem, the founder, originally from the North of France, and his heirs, made the first successes of the distillery with plant liqueurs: the Elixir d'Armorique, a mixture of 35 plants, is the flagship product of the distillery. In 1967, Paul-Henri, who would be the last Warenghem, joined forces with Yves Leizour . They diversify the range of historic liqueurs and support the development of mass distribution in Brittany. In 1974, Paul-Henri Warenghem and Yves Leizour transferred the distillery from the center of Lannion to the entrance to the town, directly on the Rest Avel source which means "the home of the wind" in Breton. At the beginning of the 1980s, Gilles Leizour , a pharmacist by training, succeeded his father. Anxious to relaunch the distillery, he decided to direct the company towards regional products and notably created the chouchen Melmor. It was in 1983 that he launched the first entirely Breton and French whiskey. In 1993, perfecting his know-how, Gilles Leizour built a distillery entirely dedicated to whiskey, and equipped with a pair of copper stills inspired by Scottish distilleries. Armorik , the first Single Malt in France and Brittany, was officially launched in 1998. Gilles Leizour retired in 2016 and David Roussier , his son-in-law, who joined the distillery in 2009, succeeded him at the head of the company.
L'Héritage des Druides is a chouchen , the Breton equivalent of mead. It is made from water drawn from the distillery's springs, honey from different origins and yeasts for fermentation. The honeys are a combination of mountain honeys and forest honeys for a fragrant and floral taste.
