Domaine de Charron - Vintage 1996 - Bas Armagnac - 47.7%

The Domaine de Charron is located in Perquie, in the Landes . It dates from the early 20th century, with Baco vines planted by Jacques and Claude Lartigue 's great-grandmother. They saved the vines from being uprooted in 1985 and launched the production of Armagnac. When Jacques retired in 2015, his son-in-law Jean-Philippe took over the estate and began major modernization work. The vines are between 35 and 65 years old, proof of the care given to them, made possible by the small area of 2 hectares. Grassing is required, thus preserving the microbiological life of the soil. The vinification is done in a natural way, without adding any oenological product in order to obtain an acid wine with a low alcohol content, suitable for distillation. If since 1985, the distillation has been done in a traveling still on the property, the Domaine de Charron has had its own still since 2012, dating from 1940. Aging is entirely carried out in new barrels from one of the last coopers in the region. region (Gilles Bartholomo based in Frêche, in the Landes). The Armagnacs are bottled in the cellar, after a minimum of 10 years of ageing.

1996 is a very good vintage in Armagnac.
