Elixir Distillers was founded as Speciality Drinks in 1999 by brothers Sukhinder and Raj Singh, who also created the famous online sales site Whisky Exchange the same year. In 2017, the company adopted the name Elixir Distillers, strengthening its position as a major player in the rare and premium spirits market. Oliver Chilton manages daily business operations, meticulously overseeing all cask purchases, rigorous selection, expert blending, and bottling of all Elixir Distillers creations, including the highly sought-after Black Tot range. Since the first British fleets sailed the oceans, the Royal Navy transported alcohol for its crews and maritime trade. Faced with seawater unfit for consumption and poor preservation of wine and beer in the holds, spirits were the ideal solution for long sea voyages. However, in 1970, following complex technological advances integrated into the navy, Parliament decided to abolish the daily rum ration. This historic event was immortalized by official funerals celebrating "the day the rum died," and July 31, 1970, became forever famous as Black Tot Day. The last stocks of rum were then placed in "pitchers" and carefully preserved for exceptional occasions, such as the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.
