Velier was founded in 1947 by Casimiro Chaix in Genoa, Italy. Together with his partner Arturo Lupi, they created in 1953 an import company specializing in quality wines and spirits, distributing notably champagne, grappa, as well as tea and cocoa. In 1983, Gian Luca Gargano, then marketing director of Spirit SpA – the largest import company in Italy – joined the business. In 1985, Velier specialized in importing the finest spirits, mainly destined for high-end restaurants and wine bars. In 1988, Velier became the first Italian company to import wines from the New World, marking a turning point in the importation of international products. From 1992, Velier began the rigorous selection of casks of old Single Malts and exceptional rums, gradually building its prestigious brand from 1995. In 2001, Velier offered for the first time an exclusive selection of Damoiseau rums. Habitation Velier is an innovative project launched in 2015, the result of the close collaboration of Luca Gargano with the best rum distillers in the world. Each Pure Single rum in the Habitation Velier range is unique, embodying an original concept and distinctive characteristics, a true "world first" for each of the partner distilleries. This ambitious project highlights the authenticity and richness of rum terroirs.
This emblematic expression from the Hampden Estate is a pure Jamaican rum, distilled in 2010 in a traditional pot still. It belongs to the LROK series (Light Rum Own Kelly), known for its high ester levels, here at 375 grams per hectoliter, which gives it remarkable aromatic intensity. This rum is aged for 6 years in casks, developing remarkable complexity before being bottled at natural strength, barrel proof, thus offering a powerful and authentic tasting experience.
