Cote de Nuits

Burgundy > Cote de Nuits > Morey Saint Denis
The Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru 2023 from Domaine Dujac is part of the great tradition of Pinot Noirs from the Côte de Nuits, with a style that combines aromatic refinement, depth of texture, and a faithful expression of the terroir. Originating from vines planted on brown limestone soils dotted with stony scree, this 1er Cru reflects Morey’s pivotal position between the power of Gevrey and the delicacy of Chambolle, achieving a balance highly sought after by enthusiasts. At the estate, the vines are tended with meticulous care, limited yields, careful soil work, manual harvesting, and significant use of whole cluster picking to preserve the fruit’s grain and the floral dimension of the Pinot. The 2023 vintage, bright and consistent, allowed for full maturity without excess, offering grapes that are both concentrated, fresh, and perfectly healthy. Upon opening, the wine presents a deep and shiny ruby robe, announcing an expressive nose and a structured yet silky palate. This Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru 2023 thus asserts itself as a classic of the estate, built for aging but already charming with its burst of fruit. The nose reveals a fine and detailed bouquet of Morello cherry, raspberry, and wild strawberry, complemented by notes of peony, dried rose, and fine herbs. With aeration, nuances of noble undergrowth, crumpled leaf, light smoke, and soft spices emerge, evoking the complexity of the great Pinots of Morey. On the palate, the attack is supple, almost velvety, supported by a framework of fine and tight tannins that structure the wine without ever hardening it. The mid-palate unveils a beautiful depth of fruit, between juicy small red berries, cherry pit, and a slight touch of blood orange, sustained by a perfectly balanced acidity that brings freshness and length. The minerality, discreet but well present, gives a chalky relief and a sensation of precision that extends the tasting towards an elegant finish. The controlled aging accompanies the material with very fine spicy and toasted notes, never masking the purity of the fruit nor the signature of the terroir. At the table, this Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru 2023 will find privileged pairings with roasted free-range poultry, pink pigeon, veal fillet with reduced jus, veal sweetbreads browned in brown butter, or a slightly truffled pork tenderloin. It will also pair very well with refined bourgeois cuisine, such as a high-end pâté en croûte, herb rabbit, or preparations based on wild mushrooms that will converse with its earthy and floral notes. Clos des Millésimes Bordeaux offers this cuvée in a sharp selection dedicated to great terroir wines, highlighting the most sought-after Pinot Noirs of Burgundy and reference estates like Dujac. This 2023 is aimed at enthusiasts seeking rare wines, capable of evolving harmoniously over ten to fifteen years, gaining spicy complexity and tertiary nuances while retaining the grace and finesse that make the village’s reputation. In a demanding collector’s cellar, it will naturally take its place among bottles reserved for special occasions as well as great blind tastings.

Domaine DUJAC - Morey Saint Denis 1er Cru 2023

Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru 2023 from Domaine Dujac wonderfully embodies the structured finesse and quiet elegance that make this village, a key link between Gevrey and Chambolle, renowned. The deep ruby color heralds a wine of great aromatic purity. The nose opens with a delicate palette blending ripe raspberry, blackcurrant, Morello cherry, and wild blackberry, accented by floral notes of peony and violet. In the background, fine touches of sweet spices, white pepper, and a light scent of undergrowth emerge, recalling the wooded and layered nature of Morey’s soils. The palate, straight and juicy, reveals a bright fruit supported by perfectly integrated acidity. The tannins, fine and slightly chalky, structure the wine without ever weighing it down. The finish, long and harmonious, marries freshness, floral delicacy, and mineral subtlety.

Upon aeration, this Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru 2023 gains depth and reveals nuances of cherry pit, delicate licorice, dried rose, and graphite. The whole cluster harvest, a signature of Dujac’s style, brings energy, aromatic verticality, and a floral dimension expressed with great finesse in this vintage. The palate then stretches further, gaining volume while maintaining its fruit clarity. The precise aging, with measured new oak, refines the texture and adds a subtle patina without ever masking the terroir’s personality. Here we find the domain’s characteristic style: a blend of delicacy, mastery, and clarity, where depth always serves finesse.

At the table, Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru 2023 proves particularly versatile, ideal for accompanying delicate and refined cuisine. It will elevate roasted free-range poultry, a pink veal fillet, duck breast, grilled pigeon, or lightly pink lamb chops. Its floral dimension and freshness also make it a remarkable partner for elaborate plant-based dishes featuring mushrooms, roasted vegetables, fragrant risottos, or preparations with fine herbs. In its youth, decanting will allow it to fully open. Over five to ten years of aging, it will develop notes of light truffle, dried leaves, blond tobacco, and stewed red fruits while retaining its elegant structure. This is a first growth of great distinction, precise, vibrant, and deeply faithful to Domaine Dujac’s style.
