Armagnac Laterrade - Bas-Armagnac - 1996 - Domaine de Marquet - Brut de Fût - 40%
Laterrade is an independent bottling brand specializing in Armagnac . Vincent Laterrade grew up in Vic-Fezensac, a village in the Ténarèze region of Armagnac. A former sommelier, he discovered small regional producers and joined forces with two enthusiasts to found L'Encantada, offering vintage Armagnacs from unknown estates. Vincent became a hunter of rare Armagnacs and developed an impressive collection. He later joined forces with the Fitte family, owners of Château de Herrebouc in Vic-Fezansac. He once again embarked on a barrel hunt and found vintages ranging from 10 years old to over 50 years old. His philosophy was simple: find single-estate vintage Armagnacs in which no alcohol reduction, blending, or manipulation had taken place. Once again, when the partnership dissolved, he found himself separated from the stocks he had carefully preserved. Eventually, Vincent managed to convince Stéphane de Luze to let him renovate an abandoned barn on the Château de Briat property to create a winery; this time, the barrels he found would belong only to him and would be released simply under the label "Laterrade." The spirits were sourced exclusively from local producers, the bottles came from a local glassmaker, the labels were made from local rag paper, the wax was French, and the boxes were made from French trees.
This Bas-Armagnac was distilled in 1996 at Domaine de Marquet in Castandet. It was aged for 27 years in French oak barrels from the Gascony forest.
