the Chateau Ducru-Beaucaillou is located in the appellation Saint-Julien from the Médoc, Maroon . He was classified Second Grand Cru Classé in the Bordeaux classification of 1855. The 75-hectare vineyard is located in the south-east of the appellation, near the village of Beychevelle and bordering Branaire-Ducru. It is near the river, which protects against frost and hail, and on the deeper gravel layers there is improved drainage, evening heat and a protective layer that prevents the subsoil from drying out during storms. heat waves. Alluvium and a high clay content enrich the soil, and the vineyard takes its name from these "beautiful pebbles". In 1942, Francis Borie took Ducru-Beaucaillou on a life lease from Fernand Odon Desbarats de Burke. A relentless builder, the energetic trader from Corrèze was also a passionate winegrower at Château Haut Batailley, a Grand Cru Classé of the neighboring town of Pauillac. In 1959, Jean-Eugène Borie, succeeding his father, undertook meticulous work to restore the vineyard and cellars. Quickly abandoning the family business, he dedicated himself to the development and modernization of the property to put it entirely at the service of the château's wines.
Le Petit Caillou is made from decommissioned plots of the Ducru-Beaucaillou vineyard. It is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc . Vinification takes place in vats. The wine is then aged in barrels with a proportion of new wood.
