The La Mauny Distillery is an iconic agricultural rum distillery located north of Rivière-Pilote, in Martinique, at the heart of the prestigious appellation AOC Rhum de la Martinique. This traditional distillery belongs to the company Bourdillon, Bellonnie & Successeurs SAS, a subsidiary of the renowned Chevrillon group. The exceptional history of La Mauny rums dates back to 1749, the year when Ferdinand Poulain, Count of Mauny, a Breton nobleman and advisor to the King of France, arrived in Martinique and married the daughter of a planter who owned the La Mauny Estate in Rivière-Pilote, in the south of the island. In 1820, the estate, then a producer of sugar and tafia, the ancestor of rum, began producing agricultural rum made exclusively from the fresh pure juice of sugarcane grown on the plantation. A century later, in 1923, the brothers Théodore and Georges Bellonie became owners of the estate. Their complementarity – one in distillation, the other in trade – quickly propelled La Mauny to the rank of a recognized pioneer in the rum world. In 1950, La Mauny innovated by becoming the first brand to export its rums with screen-printed and labeled bottles beyond its municipality, throughout the island and even to mainland France. True to its roots, the La Mauny House uses 5 of the 14 varieties of sugarcane authorized by the AOC for the production of its agricultural rums. It sources 70% from small local producers committed to sustainable agriculture, thus guaranteeing optimal quality and respect for the environment. A pioneer in valuing planters, La Mauny is also the first brand to have created an association dedicated to promoting sugarcane growers in Martinique.
This traditional Martinican liqueur is made according to ancestral know-how, combining La Mauny white agricultural rum with carefully selected orange peels.
