François Mikulski - Meursault 1er Cru Les Genevrières 2022
The Domaine François Mikulski is one of the most sought-after names in Meursault, in the heart of the Côte de Beaune, Burgundy. Established with Marie-Pierre Mikulski in the early 1990s, François Mikulski has built an immediately recognizable style, based on purity, precision, and great elegance in aging. The domaine works with major terroirs of Meursault, but also several neighboring appellations, with particular attention to freshness, clarity of each climat, and the natural balance of the wines. Les Genevrières holds a special place in this range, as this Premier Cru is considered one of the noblest climats of Meursault. Located on the hillside, it produces whites that are often very complete, capable of combining breadth, tension, and aromatic complexity. The parcel exploited by the domaine covers 0.53 hectares, with vines about 50 years old exposed to the east. François Mikulski Meursault 1er Cru Les Genevrières 2022 thus presents itself as a great Burgundian Chardonnay, refined, deep, and crafted for aging.
The cuvée Meursault 1er Cru Les Genevrières 2022 is made from 100% Chardonnay, grown on a terroir of limestone pebbles resting on fissured slab rock. This soil structure promotes deep rooting and gives the wine a remarkable mineral tension while preserving the natural richness of Meursault. The 2022 vintage in Burgundy produced whites of beautiful maturity, often generous but balanced by good acidity, which is particularly suitable for a climat of this stature. The aging is conducted with restraint, with a low proportion of new wood, generally indicated around 15 to 20%, to preserve the expression of the terroir. The rest of the aging is done in one, two, and three-wine barrels, which adds patina without imposing excessive woody character. The 2022 Les Genevrières stands out for its ample body, great aromatic sophistication, and mineral energy that prolongs the finish. It is a high-level Meursault Premier Cru, both powerful, elegant, and very precise.
On tasting, François Mikulski Meursault 1er Cru Les Genevrières 2022 offers a pale yellow to golden robe, bright and luminous. The nose may evoke ripe lemon, pear, white peach, white flowers, fresh almond, fine hazelnut, fresh butter, and a subtle touch of warm stone. On the palate, the wine is ample and deep, with a silky texture supported by a very clear limestone tension. The balance rests on the meeting of the vintage's richness, the precision of the Chardonnay, and the refined minerality of the Genevrières climat. The finish is long, saline, slightly chalky, with remarkable aromatic persistence on ripe citrus, white fruits, and hazelnut notes. This Meursault Premier Cru will ideally accompany roasted scallops, lobster, turbot with beurre blanc, Bresse poultry with cream, morel risotto, or an aged Comté cheese. It can be tasted after careful aeration, but its balance and depth will allow it to evolve for several years in the cellar.
