Barbadillo - Saturday 2023
Bodegas Barbadillo is located in Sanlúcar de Barrameda, in the Jerez region of Spain . The company was established in 1821 when Benigno Barbadillo y Ortigüela, accompanied by his cousin Manuel López Barbadillo, returned to Spain after making his fortune in Mexico and after having declared Aztec independence from the Spanish Empire. He settled in Sanlúcar de Barrameda and acquired his first winery. Under his leadership, he quickly began distributing his wines to different regions of Spain and exported the first sherry casks to the United Kingdom and America. Benigno died in 1837 and his eldest son, Manuel, took over the business, which is now known as Bodegas Barbadillo. Today, it is one of the oldest family businesses in Spain and, with 500 hectares of vineyards, 16 aging cellars in Sanlúcar de Barrameda and a winemaking plant for white and red grapes, is one of the largest bodegas in Jerez.
Sábalo is made from the Palomino grape variety. The grapes come from three historic vineyards in Balbaína and Burujena, and are harvested on the white albariza soils typical of Sanlúcar. The wine is aged for 4 months on lees .
Grape variety: 100% Palomino
"Sábalo 2023 is Palomino at its freest: dry, mineral, and imbued with a mouthwatering tension that evokes the nearby sea. Ideal with grilled fish, crisp vegetables, or simply as an aperitif. A wonderful way to explore the Andalusian coast... glass in hand!"
