Radford Dale - Vinum Pinotage 2022
Radford Dale is located in the Stellenbosch wine region of South Africa . It was founded in 1998 by Alex Dale and Ben Radford . Alex Dale , who was British-born and trained in Burgundy, lived and worked in the wine region for several years after his studies. In 1994, after Nelson Mandela's election, he moved to South Africa, although he maintained close ties to France. The wines are produced in the mountainous Helderberg area, and the duo also own a certified organic estate in the cool Elgin Valley. Radford Dale takes a terroir-centric approach , favoring cuvées from specific plots rather than regional blends. The estate emphasizes sustainable farming practices, promoting biodiversity, and minimizing the use of chemicals.
Vinum Pinotage is made from grapes from a vineyard located in the northern part of the Stellenbosch region, with a vine age of approximately 25 years. The terroir contains a high proportion of decomposing granite from the surrounding mountains. After hand-harvesting, the grapes are hand-sorted and then carbonic macerated in open 600-liter demi-muids for a very gentle extraction of color, aromas, and tannins. The wine was then aged in small 228- and 300-liter oak barrels ; a mixture of 2nd, 3rd, and 4th fill barrels, to carry out malolactic conversion and maturation.
Grape variety: 100% Pinotage
