Mana'o - White Rum - Pure Cane Juice - 50%

Mana'o is a brand of rum produced on the island of Tahiti , in French Polynesia . This rum pays homage to Polynesian agriculture and sugar cane: originally from the Pacific, sugar cane took root on the islands of Polynesia around the year 300 AD, traveling on the canoes of Polynesian navigators. Some varieties then acclimatize perfectly to the conditions of these islands, and they are grown there for their sweet juice used as an excipient for 'ra'au Tahiti' (traditional medicine) and for the taste qualities of their stem which is still chewed today. Their worldwide expansion will begin in the 18th century, when Louis-Antoine de Bougainville and James Cook, during their expeditions around the world, discover these canes and distribute them on all continents and as far as the Caribbean under the name of Otahïti cane . Considered the best in the world, they will be the most cultivated during the 19th century before being dethroned by modern hybrids. It will have taken nearly six years to research and inventory the various ancestral varieties of sugar cane and to relaunch their cultivation on still virgin lands: it is on the plateau of Toahotu on the Tahiti peninsula that planted the first sugar canes of Mana'o. These lands spared by intensive agriculture were the essential elements for the conduct of an organic farming project.

Mana'o is a pure cane first press rum , that is to say, it is obtained by crushing sugar cane in a single pass. The juice thus harvested is fermented on site before being distilled in Tahiti. The selected distillates are sent to the atoll of Rangiroa to be aged in vats or French oak barrels.
