The Pegaso project, led by Telmo Rodríguez in the Sierra de Gredos, is now established as one of the most noble and accomplished expressions of Spanish Garnacha. A visionary winemaker, Telmo Rodríguez chose these granite mountains located northwest of Madrid for their freshness, altitude, and the uniqueness of their old vines. Here, Garnacha moves away from sunny caricatures to reach a range of depth, elegance, and energy that evokes the greatest Mediterranean age-worthy wines. Pegaso is a pure terroir project, conducted with humility and rigor, becoming an absolute reference for lovers of fine and vibrant red wines.
The cuvée Pegaso – Granito 2022 comes from old Garnacha vines planted on granite soils characteristic of the Sierra de Gredos. This terroir gives the wine a unique structure, marked by verticality, tension, and great purity of expression. The 2022 vintage, perfectly mastered, allows the combination of maturity and freshness, giving birth to a wine that is both deep and perfectly balanced. The vinification favors delicacy and transparency, with measured extractions and aging carried out in a supportive spirit to preserve the identity of the fruit and the soil. Granito embodies the most serious ambition of the Pegaso project and ranks among the very great Grenache wines worldwide.
On tasting, Pegaso Granito 2022 impresses with its nobility and depth. The nose opens with intense red and black fruits, fine floral notes, delicate spices, and an almost stony minerality. The palate is ample, structured, and very precise, with a silky texture and remarkably fine tannins. The balance between contained power and freshness recalls the greatest Châteauneuf-du-Pape of Emmanuel Reynaud’s style, where concentration always serves elegance. The finish is long, vibrant, and saline, leaving a sensation of exceptional depth and purity. This wine will beautifully accompany roasted meats, lamb, gourmet cuisine, or can be enjoyed alone as a meditation wine. A very great Grenache, classy, deep, and timeless.
