Domaine Lignier Michelot - Burgundy Pinot Noir 2022
The Domaine Lignier Michelot is located in Morey Saint Denis, in the heart of the Côte de Nuits, where the family has been crafting highly precise Pinot Noirs for several generations. Between village vineyards, premiers and grands crus, the domaine has established itself as one of the most reliable signatures for those seeking deep yet always digestible Burgundies. Soil work, yield control, and manual harvesting allow for the collection of perfectly ripe grapes without losing the structuring freshness of the limestone terroirs. The house philosophy favors the expression of fruit and texture, with gentle extractions and a finely dosed use of wood. This rigor, usually associated with great appellations, is already present in the regional cuvées. Burgundy Pinot Noir 2022 is the ideal entry point, offering direct access to the Lignier Michelot style in a more immediate and gourmand interpretation.
Domaine Lignier Michelot Burgundy Pinot Noir 2022 comes from vines located on the edge of the great villages of the Côte de Nuits, on soils mixing limestone, marl, and light clays. The 2022 vintage, sunny but well controlled, produced perfectly ripe grapes with healthy and aromatic skins, hand-picked and carefully sorted. Vinification is done in vats, with a variable proportion of whole bunches depending on the parcel profile, to bring energy, spice, and depth without harshness. Macerations are conducted gently to preserve the finesse of the tannic grain and the aromatic purity of Pinot Noir. Aging then takes place in vats and several-used oak barrels, with very discreet oak that serves as a support rather than a marked signature. The result is a serious red Burgundy, highly coherent, that far exceeds the simple status of a regional appellation.
On tasting, this Burgundy Pinot Noir 2022 presents a bright ruby robe with cherry highlights. The nose opens with crunchy aromas of red fruits, morello cherry, raspberry, and wild strawberry, enhanced by fine floral notes and a touch of sweet spices. On the palate, the attack is juicy and precise, with a gourmand fruit immediately supported by a fine and silky tannic framework, typical of good Côte de Nuits Pinots. The texture is slender, fresh, without heaviness, with well-integrated acidity that gives relief and extends the wine on a salivating finish. Nuances of cherry pit, white pepper, and a slight minerality call for the next sip. At the table, it perfectly accompanies roasted poultry, veal fillet, pink duck breast, fine charcuterie, mushroom risotto, or lightly aged soft cheeses.
