Domaine Génot-Boulanger - Meursault Les Meix Chavaux 2022
Located in Meursault, Domaine Génot-Boulanger is one of the remarkable family estates of the Côte de Beaune. Founded in 1974 by Charles-Henri Génot and Marie Boulanger, it has gradually built up a heritage of parcels spread over several prestigious Burgundy appellations. Today, the estate pursues a demanding approach to viticulture, based on respect for the soil, precise ripeness, and a constant search for balance. Les Meix Chavaux is a climat located in the northern part of Meursault, near the border with Auxey-Duresses. Its relatively cool situation and clay-limestone soils favor an expression of Chardonnay that is often more taut and slender than that of the sunniest sectors of the appellation. This lieu-dit thus has a very distinct identity, where minerality and finesse play an essential role. Domaine Génot-Boulanger's Meursault Les Meix Chavaux perfectly illustrates this precise and elegant facet of the great whites of the Côte de Beaune.
The 2022 Meursault Les Meix Chavaux comes from a 0.50-hectare parcel planted in 1970, facing northeast and located mid-slope, just above the Clous stream. Its shallow, particularly stony clay-limestone soil ensures excellent drainage, while the proximity of the Auxey-Duresses combes maintains relatively cool temperatures. The grapes are hand-harvested, then crushed before whole-cluster pressing. After a light settling, fermentation takes place in oak barrels, without sulfur addition at this stage. Aging continues for twelve months in barrels, with only 10 to 15% new wood, then an additional six months in stainless steel tanks. The wine is bottled without filtration to preserve its substance and natural expression. Certified organic since the 2018 vintage, the estate thus favors a vinification respectful of the grape, where the wood supports the texture without masking the terroir's uniqueness.
The 2022 Meursault Les Meix Chavaux stands out with a bouquet of great purity, dominated by fresh lemon, citrus fruits, and a particularly pronounced mineral expression. Notes of wet stone, white flowers, and fine herbs gradually enrich the whole, while the aging brings discreet complexity without weighing down the aromatic profile. On the palate, the wine combines delicately enveloping substance with remarkable tension, characteristic of this cool and stony parcel. The acidity gives a constant drive to the tasting, supported by precise texture and beautiful concentration. Nuances of white pepper and aromatic herbs appear on the retro-olfaction, before a long, saline, and particularly vibrant finish. The 2022 vintage brings generous ripeness, perfectly balanced here by the natural freshness of the terroir. This Meursault has excellent aging potential and will ideally accompany roasted turbot, pan-seared scallops, lobster with lemon butter, or Bresse poultry with morels.
