Domaine Cassagne et Vitailles - Combarels de l'Ombre 2024
Founded by Matthieu Cassagne and Rodolphe Vitailles, Domaine Cassagne & Vitailles is one of the most exciting new faces in Languedoc. Located in the hills above Montpeyroux and its surrounding area, the two winemakers have adopted a respectful viticulture approach, prioritizing low yields and enhancing the terroir. Their ambitious, artisanal approach has quickly established the estate as one of the rising stars of the South of France.
The Combarels de l'Ombre cuvée comes from a selection of old vines rooted in stony, clay-limestone soils exposed to natural shade that tempers the Mediterranean heat. The 2024 vintage, marked by beautiful climatic regularity, allowed for the harvest of perfectly ripe grapes while preserving a rare aromatic freshness. This balance gives rise to a wine that is both profound and elegant, embodying the founders' vision: to create a dialogue between Mediterranean power and terroir finesse.
The intense garnet color announces a beautiful concentration. The nose unfolds aromas of black fruits (blackberry, black cherry), enhanced by notes of spices, garrigue and a slightly smoky mineral touch. On the palate, the attack is ample and velvety, carried by firm but silky tannins. The structure is straight and balanced, giving way to a long, fresh and persistent finish, where liquorice, pepper and stony nuances mingle. A wine of identity and character, designed to seduce now but also to improve in the cellar.
