Clos de la Barthassade - Les Gravettes 2023
Clos de la Barthassade is located in Aniane, in the heart of Languedoc, within the Terrasses du Larzac appellation. Founded by Hélène and Guillaume Baron, the estate quickly distinguished itself through a precise, artisanal approach focused on finesse rather than demonstrative power. Its vineyard of just over 13 hectares is spread across several plots around Montpeyroux, Jonquières, and Saint-Saturnin, on terraces of typical limestone scree of the area. This geology, combined with the fresh influences of the Larzac, allows the production of balanced, deep, and digestible Mediterranean wines. The estate works organically, with some interventions guided by the biodynamic calendar, in a quest to respect life and precision of the fruit. Les Gravettes holds an important place in the range, as this cuvée expresses an elegant, supple, and luminous face of the great reds of Languedoc. The 2023 vintage confirms this identity, with a wine that is both generous, structured, and carried by remarkable freshness.
The Les Gravettes 2023 cuvée is a blend of Grenache, Cinsault, and Syrah, under the AOC Terrasses du Larzac. The majority Grenache brings flesh, ripe red fruit, and roundness, while the Cinsault refines the texture and adds fluidity. The Syrah completes the blend with a spicier touch, aromatic depth, and a discreet but essential structure. The limestone and stony soils of the area help preserve a beautiful tension, even in a naturally sunny Mediterranean environment. Vinifications are carried out with measured intervention, in the spirit of the estate, to preserve the brightness of the fruit and the balance of the vintage. The 15-month aging in demi-muids, barrels, and concrete egg allows building the body without imposing dominant wood. Les Gravettes 2023 thus presents itself as an elegant, ample, and tasty red from Terrasses du Larzac, capable of combining immediate generosity and terroir depth.
On the palate, Clos de la Barthassade Les Gravettes 2023 reveals an expressive nose of ripe red fruits, strawberry, cherry, raspberry, and small black berries. Aeration reveals notes of sweet spices, garrigue, licorice, light cocoa, and a discreet balsamic nuance. On the palate, the wine is supple, ample, and very harmonious, with a silky texture supported by fine tannins. The natural freshness of Terrasses du Larzac balances the fruit's ripeness and gives the wine a clean, salivating, and elegant finish. The aging adds depth and structure without masking the aromatic purity of the blend. This cuvée will ideally accompany lamb shoulder, veal chop, grilled meats, roasted poultry, Mediterranean vegetables, or cuisine with garrigue herbs. It can be enjoyed young for its fruit and balance but also has the necessary structure to evolve for a few years in the cellar.
