Domaine Génot-Boulanger - Beaune En Lulunne Blanc 2022
Established in Meursault since its creation in 1974, Domaine Génot-Boulanger is now managed by Aude and Guillaume Lavollée, who continue to develop this family estate with particular attention to soil vitality and terroir expression. The estate cultivates 22 hectares of vines spread over about thirty appellations, from the Côte de Nuits to the Côte Chalonnaise, including the major villages of the Côte de Beaune. The Beaune En Lulunne Blanc comes from a unique climate located south of Beaune, in a valley separating the Pommard mountain from that of Saint-Désiré. Its name dates back to the Gallo-Roman era and refers to a spring around which a small village once developed. The estate owns a parcel here of only 0.24 hectares, planted with Chardonnay in 1986, located on the heights of the hill and facing due south. The vines root in clay-limestone and silty soils, which contribute to the balance between fruit ripeness and natural freshness. This terroir produces a particularly delicate white Beaune, favoring floral expression, liveliness, and elegance rather than power.
The Beaune En Lulunne Blanc 2022 is made exclusively from Chardonnay, cultivated in certified organic farming since the 2018 vintage. The harvest is done manually, allowing grapes to be picked at optimal ripeness while preserving their integrity. After gentle crushing, whole clusters are pressed, then the juices undergo a slight settling before being transferred to oak barrels. Fermentation takes place thanks to indigenous yeasts, without sulfur addition at this stage, to preserve the natural expression of the grape. Aging continues for twelve months in barrels, with a limited proportion of 10 to 15% new wood, then an additional six months in stainless steel tanks. This second phase refines the wine's texture and preserves all the aromatic liveliness of Chardonnay, before bottling without filtration. The 2022 vintage, marked by a warm and sunny summer in Burgundy, favored good grape ripeness while maintaining a particularly fresh and airy expression here.
The Beaune En Lulunne Blanc 2022 seduces with a delicate and luminous bouquet, dominated by white flowers, notably jasmine and lily, accompanied by fresh notes of lemon and citrus. Upon aeration, subtle nuances of verbena, lily of the valley, and white fruits enrich this aromatic palette without ever masking the purity of Chardonnay. On the palate, the wine stands out with a lively attack and a fine, almost airy texture, favoring freshness over opulence. The body is elegant and harmonious, supported by a tonic acidity that gives great momentum to the tasting. Citrus fruits extend their expression to a clean, delicately floral, and refreshing finish, leaving an impression of lightness and precision. Already pleasant to drink, this white Beaune can also evolve over a few years, gradually gaining roundness and aromatic complexity. It will ideally accompany seared scallops, grilled fish, seafood, farm poultry with cream, or soft cheese.
