Domaine Frédéric Mochel - Riesling Grand Cru Altenberg de Bergbieten 2019
The Domaine Frédéric Mochel is located in Traenheim, in Alsace. Originally, the family estate was dedicated to vine growing, mixed farming, and livestock. From 1967 onwards, the operation became entirely viticultural. The vineyard now covers 8 hectares and is in the process of converting to organic farming. Since 2001, Frédéric Mochel has been in charge of the property, drawing on his experience between Bordeaux and New Zealand. Frédéric Mochel owns plots on the hill of the Altenberg de Bergbieten, which benefits from an exceptional geographical location: situated between two valleys, it is spared from summer storms and has low rainfall. It is protected from winds and rains coming from the north, and the Vosges also form a barrier against oceanic rains. At the same time, its position in an open landscape allows optimal sunlight throughout the day, so the grapes reach maturity evenly.
The Henriette cuvée is a Riesling from the Grand Cru Altenberg de Bergbieten, whose terroir is marl-limestone-gypsum. The average age of the vines is 60 years and they produce low yields. The wine is aged in stainless steel tanks on fine lees then in large oak casks.
Grape variety: 100% Riesling
