Tenuta Dell'Ornellaia - Le Volte dell'Ornellaia 2022
Ornellaia is located in the Bolgheri appellation, in Tuscany , Italy . The company was founded in 1981 by Marquis Lodovico Antinori, with the first vintage in 1985. From 2002 to 2005, the estate was co-owned by Robert Mondavi and Marchesi De Frescobaldi, but since 2005, Frescobaldi has had sole ownership. At Ornellaia, the concept of environmental sustainability , understood as the use of the natural fertility of the soil, can be identified in various limited practices and measures implemented in the vineyards, with the aim of promoting the biodiversity of cultivated species.
The Volte dell'Ornellaia 2022 is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (51%), Merlot (44%) and Petit Verdot (5%) . The different grape varieties were fermented separately in small steel vats to preserve their varietal characteristics. Alcoholic fermentation was followed by malolactic fermentation, again in steel vats. The wine was then aged for 10 months , partly in barriques used for the great Ornellaia wine and partly in cement vats , to achieve the perfect balance between tannic structure and fresh fruit expression. The 2022 vintage in Tuscany is characterized by a typical winter followed by a cool and dry early spring. September was a perfect month for the accumulation of sugars, aromas and tannins mainly thanks to the cool night temperatures.
