Tenuta Dell'Ornellaia - Massetino 2023
The 2023 Massetino, produced by Tenuta dell'Ornellaia in Bolgheri, is the second wine from the legendary Masseto, crafted with the same high standards and precision philosophy. Born on the clay and gravel slopes of Masseto Hill, this wine expresses the power and sensuality of the terroir, while favoring a more accessible approach in its youth.
Made primarily from Merlot, with a touch of Cabernet Franc to provide structure and freshness, the 2023 vintage benefited from a temperate climate, marked by slow and balanced ripening. The vinifications, carried out in small concrete vats, scrupulously respect the plot identity of each lot. After blending, the wine is aged for approximately fifteen months in French oak barrels, including a moderate proportion of new oak, before a further rest in the bottle.
The nose reveals an expressive bouquet of black cherry, plum, and blackberry, supported by notes of cocoa, violet, and cedar. On the palate, the texture is velvety and precise, supported by fine tannins and an elegant freshness. The mid-palate seduces with its perfectly contained density, revealing the balance typical of the vintage. The finish, long and refined, stretches with nuances of black fruits, licorice, and blond tobacco, imbued with a saline tension characteristic of the Tuscan coast.
A Bolgheri of great precision, both opulent and distinguished, which reflects the spirit of Masseto with a more immediate approach. Enjoy from 2026 or keep for around ten years. Serve between 16 and 17°C.
