The 2023 Marsannay Le Chapitre comes from a legendary vineyard site, once classified as Nuits-Saint-Georges, situated on very pure limestone soils with naturally low yields. A true jewel of Marsannay's winemaking heritage, this terroir produces elegant and complex Pinot Noirs. The 2023 vintage, with its beautiful ripeness, allowed Sylvain Pataille to craft a wine that is at once concentrated, ethereal, and remarkably harmonious. Fermentation takes place with indigenous yeasts and a measured proportion of whole cluster fermentation, followed by patient aging in barrels, mostly old, to preserve the fruit's transparency.
On the nose, Le Chapitre 2023 reveals a noble and refined expression: vibrant red fruits, Morello cherry, raspberry, and redcurrant, mingled with floral notes of peony and dried rose, followed by a subtle touch of graphite and licorice. On the palate, the wine seduces with its linear and satiny texture, supported by a mineral structure and crystalline tension. The tannins are fine and precise, leading to a long, vibrant, slightly saline finish, characteristic of the great limestone terroirs of the northern Côte de Nuits.
This 2023 Marsannay Le Chapitre pairs wonderfully with duck breast with red berries, wild mushroom risotto, or a mature Burgundy cheese. A truly moving wine, best enjoyed now for its freshness, or cellared for ten years to develop its full complexity.
