Domaine Naudin-Ferrand - Myosotis Arvensis 2024
In Magny-lès-Villers, between Nuits-Saint-Georges and Beaune, Domaine Naudin-Ferrand continues a story closely linked to the Hautes-Côtes bourguignonnes. The estate covers about 22 hectares, mostly regional appellations, complemented by some village terroirs, premiers crus, and grand cru. Claire Naudin defends a very personal approach to wine, attentive to the vintage, the vegetation, the fruit, and the freedom of expression of Pinot Noir. The estate's technical choices lean towards less corrected, less standardized wines, with a marked reduction in inputs, fermentations without added yeast, enzymes, or osmosis, and very little or no added sulfites depending on the cuvées. Myosotis Arvensis 2024 belongs to the family of “Natural” wines fermented without added sulfites at the start, a process that requires impeccable grape quality and particularly precise sorting. In the landscape of Bourgogne Hautes Côtes de Nuits, this cuvée offers a fine, slightly wild, and very sincere reading of Pinot Noir. It does not seek massive depth but the transparency of the fruit, the suppleness of the grain, and a moderate elegance that suits the spirit of the 2024 vintage particularly well.
This cuvée comes from several parcels with high qualitative potential: Les Tilles, La Croix, Les Chaumes, and Le Champ Lavoca. The estate highlights their good exposures, the quality of the plant material, and the sufficiently healthy harvest to allow alternative vinification with whole clusters, without destemming and without added sulfites during vatting. The Pinot Noir vines, aged 27 to 67 years, cover 3.72 hectares, with a very low yield of 15 hl/ha and a limited production of 2,816 bottles. The grapes were hand-harvested on September 23, 2024, then carefully sorted before vatting in whole clusters. After five days of intracellular fermentation, a first punch-down triggers alcoholic fermentation, which continues for about ten days with only a few punch-downs. Pressing is gentle, at 0.7 bar, then barrel aging is done by gravity and without aeration, with 30% new barrels. Aging on lees lasts 12 months, followed by a very light addition of sulfites and bottling without filtration.
The color presents a light hue, characteristic of 2024 at Naudin-Ferrand, more focused on brightness than intensity. The nose opens on a fairly clear maturity of black fruit, around blueberry, blackcurrant, and dark cherry, then reveals finer nuances of peony, soft spices, and light undergrowth. On the palate, the wine has a supple, almost delicate attack, supported by tender tannins and already melted oak. The acidity remains discreet but sufficient to maintain a fresh line and avoid any sensation of softness. With its 12.25% alcohol, Myosotis Arvensis 2024 maintains a digestible, elegant balance, faithful to a lightly emphasized reading of Pinot Noir. The finish returns to black fruits, a touch of noble stem, and a slight earthy sensation that gives relief to the wine without hardening it. It will pair very well with delicate Asian cuisine, sushi, beef tataki, a venison steak, lacquered poultry, or an aged Langres cheese. Served around 13°C, after opening one hour before the meal, or even a light decanting if necessary, it will better express its fruit, its grain, and its delicacy.
