Domaine Arlan - Irouléguy Blanc - Magnum 2023
Domaine Arlan , located in the heart of the Basque Country, embodies the elegant and authentic renaissance of the Irouléguy vineyard, one of the most spectacular in France. Perched on the steep slopes of the Pyrenean foothills, the estate, created by Didier Ybargaray, cultivates its vines on terraces in sandstone and schist soils, between oceanic and mountain influences. It is situated in the picturesque village of Bidarray, with breathtaking views of the Basque countryside. A true haven of peace. This demanding, manual, high-altitude viticulture produces wines of great purity, imbued with tension and energy.
The 2023 Irouléguy Blanc in magnum format is a wine of character and balance, made from the traditional blend of Gros Manseng and Petit Manseng . Each grape variety contributes its own nuance: Gros Manseng offers freshness and structure, while Petit Manseng provides aromatic richness and floral delicacy. Fermentation is carried out naturally with indigenous yeasts, followed by meticulous aging in stainless steel tanks and a single old oak barrel, to preserve the tension of the vintage while adding depth. The magnum format, ideal for cellaring, allows for a slow and harmonious evolution of the wine.
On the nose, this 2023 Irouléguy Blanc unfolds a vibrant bouquet of juicy pear, ripe lemon, and white flowers, enhanced by hints of acacia honey, flint, and sweet almond. A delicate smokiness from yeast autolysis is also present. On the palate, the texture is ample and silky, supported by a precise mineral structure. Flavors of white-fleshed fruit and citrus are balanced by fine acidity and subtle salinity, resulting in a wine that is direct, fresh, and persistent. The long, crystalline finish testifies to the nobility of the Irouléguy terroir.
In magnum, this wine will develop slowly, gaining in complexity and honeyed nuances over the years. It pairs ideally with grilled trout, scallop carpaccio, roast poultry with lemon, or a Basque sheep's cheese.
