Château du Cèdre - Cèdre Héritage Malbec 2022
Château du Cèdre is one of the emblematic estates of the Cahors appellation, located in Vire-sur-Lot, in the heart of the historic vineyard of the Southwest. Managed by Pascal and Jean-Marc Verhaeghe, the estate covers about thirty hectares mainly planted on limestone plateaus and gravel terraces of the Lot valley. A pioneer of the qualitative renewal of Cahors, Château du Cèdre has established itself as a major player in the promotion of Malbec, the king grape variety of the appellation. The vineyard is managed with certified organic farming, with demanding soil work and controlled yields to preserve concentration and expression of the terroir. The estate's philosophy is based on precision, balance, and aging potential, while maintaining great drinkability.
The cuvée Cèdre Héritage Malbec 2022 embodies the accessible and modern expression of Cahors Malbec. Made exclusively from Malbec, it comes from vines planted on clay-limestone and gravelly soils, providing structure and freshness. The 2022 vintage, marked by beautiful ripeness and excellent health, gives birth to a generous, concentrated but perfectly balanced wine. The vinification favors gentle extraction to preserve fruit and tannin finesse, followed by measured aging intended to round out the structure without masking the grape variety's identity. This cuvée highlights the purity of Malbec, in a style both structured and immediately appealing.
On tasting, the wine shows a deep color with violet reflections. The nose opens with intense aromas of ripe black fruits, blackcurrant and plum, accompanied by spicy and slightly licorice notes. The palate is ample and fleshy, supported by supple and well-integrated tannins. The balance between freshness and concentration brings a nice dynamism to the whole. The finish is persistent, marked by fruity and spicy nuances typical of great Cahors Malbecs. This wine will ideally accompany grilled red meats, stewed dishes, or matured cheeses, and can be enjoyed today while offering a few years of aging potential.
