Château de Plaisance is among the important estates of the Anjou noir, in a landscape of Ligérian hills where the schists give the Chenins a very recognizable depth. Located on the terroirs of Chaume, Quarts-de-Chaume, and Savennières, the estate benefits from a rare viticultural heritage, historically associated with the great whites of the Loire. Since being taken over by Vanessa Cherruau, Château de Plaisance asserts a precise, demanding, and contemporary line, centered on the expression of living soils and natural balances. The vineyard has been managed organically since 1995 and biodynamically since 2008, a continuity that strongly structures the identity of the wines. In this range, Savennières holds an essential place, as the appellation gives Chenin a more vertical dimension, more austere in its youth and deeply mineral. The 2024 vintage fits into this search for purity, with a dry white designed for tension, aging, and gastronomy. Château de Plaisance Savennières 2024 thus expresses one of the most refined faces of Ligérian Chenin.
The 2024 Savennières cuvée is made from 100% Chenin, grown on soils of wind-blown sand and schists, two elements that contribute both to the finesse of texture and the mineral tension of the wine. The grapes are hand-harvested, then subjected to a slow cold pressing to preserve aromatic precision and the quality of the material. Fermentation is carried out with indigenous yeasts, in a logic of natural expression of the terroir and vintage. The wine is vinified then aged for 14 to 15 months, including 12 months in barrels, which gives it depth without erasing the uprightness of Chenin. Malolactic fermentation is left free, total or partial depending on the year, to respect the balance unique to each harvest. The profile announced by the estate is that of a powerful and sharp wine, capable of combining breadth, relief, and freshness. In 2024, this cuvée presents itself as a characterful Savennières, still young but already built around a clear energy and beautiful persistence.
On tasting, Château de Plaisance Savennières 2024 offers a clear robe with golden reflections, announcing a dry Chenin both tense and structured. The nose may evoke yellow apple, firm pear, candied lemon, fresh quince, white flowers, and a slightly smoky nuance linked to the schists. On the palate, the attack is ample, then the acidic framework quickly tightens the wine and brings a sensation of precision. The material has volume but remains held by a lively minerality, almost chalky and saline on the finish. Barrel aging discreetly accompanies the texture without dominating the fruit or the terroir's signature. This 2024 Savennières will ideally accompany mushroom ravioli, creamy poultry, a noble fish, roasted scallops, a shoulder of lamb with candied lemon, or a creamy pumpkin with truffle. Built for aging, it can be enjoyed young after aeration but will gain complexity over the years.
