Château de Bois Brinçon - Selection of Noble Grains 1994
With the Sélection de Grains Nobles 1994, Château de Bois Brinçon has produced a great sweet Loire wine that is both rich and luminous. Made from Chenin Blanc harvested by successive selections, this Anjou wine expresses the nobility of noble rot and the limestone identity of the tuffeau. For lovers of old vintages, sweet Loire wines, and heritage cuvées, this 1994 embodies the rare alliance between concentration, balance, and freshness. The creation of this cuvée is based on meticulous work in the vineyard and cellar. The botrytized grapes were selected berry by berry at the peak of their maturity, then gently pressed to extract a pure and dense juice. Slow fermentation and patient aging in neutral containers and/or old barrels were carried out to preserve the aromatic precision, polish the texture, and maintain the natural tension of the Chenin. The goal has never been power alone, but harmony between liqueur, acidity and the mineral signature of the Anjou terroir.
Upon tasting, the color reveals itself to be amber with mahogany highlights, bright and deep. The nose exudes aromas of candied orange peel, dried apricot, quince, wax honey and saffron, enhanced by nuances of black tea and a delicate rancio. The palate is smooth and velvety, carried by a silky liqueur that stretches out with crystalline acidity. The finish stretches long on blond caramel, hazelnut and citrus marmalade, with a subtle salinity that characterizes the great tuffeau Chenins. This great sweet wine lends itself to numerous gastronomic pairings. It enhances a semi-cooked or pan-fried foie gras, accompanies blue cheeses like Roquefort or Stilton, highlights a roasted poultry with caramelized juices and dialogues with lightly spiced Asian cuisine. At the end of a meal, it enhances a tarte Tatin, roasted pineapple or a quince dessert, but is equally appreciated on its own as a meditation wine.
Serving must be precise to reveal its full complexity. It is recommended to serve the Sélection de Grains Nobles 1994 at 11–12 °C, without excessive cold, with the possibility of a short decanting of ten to fifteen minutes. At its current maturity, this vintage can still evolve favorably for five to ten years in a temperate cellar. As with any old wine, a certain variability in the bottle is natural and part of the charm of the tasting, hence the importance of vertical storage, away from heat, light and vibrations.
Grape variety: 100% Chenin blanc.
