Corty Artisan - Sancerre Les Monts Damnés 2023
From the Vignobles Patrice Moreux, Corty Artisan Les Monts Damnés 2023 is part of the history of a family deeply rooted in the Centre-Loire, whose Corty and Moreux branches united by marriage in 1955. The house now works both in Pouilly-Fumé and Sancerre, with a Corty Artisan range built around precise parcel readings of the different terroirs of sauvignon blanc. Les Monts Damnés is among the most famous slopes of Chavignol, with a spectacular incline that demands demanding work in the vineyards. This cuvée is made exclusively from sauvignon blanc and fully claims the mineral and structured identity of this Sancerre area. The 2023 vintage delivers a profile more oriented towards depth and texture than a simply varietal expression. The matter has a certain breadth while retaining the expected energy of a great terroir sauvignon. This combination gives a serious, gastronomic Sancerre designed to gain complexity with a few years in the bottle.
Les Monts Damnés 2023 is made 100% from sauvignon blanc. This parcel origin allows the wine to develop a concentrated expression, with a broader and enveloping structure than many Sancerres built solely around liveliness. The character of the vintage is expressed by a pronounced aromatic maturity, accompanied by a dense matter but fresh enough to maintain balance. The professional tasting of the 2023 notably highlights its volume in the mouth, its yellow apple register, and a hint of almond that appears on the finish. The wine is 13% vol., a level consistent with this sensation of controlled maturity and texture. Its structure allows it to be approached now after a short aeration, but it also has the necessary reserve to evolve favorably. A tasting window extending to the early 2030s appears particularly coherent to enjoy both its fruit and its mineral development.
The color shows a bright light yellow that gradually gains golden nuances with aeration. The nose is initially reserved, then reveals yellow apple, ripe citrus, and slightly floral tones. The mouth has more width than a strictly incisive sauvignon, with a round matter and a sensation of density that gives relief to the mid-palate. Nuances of almond and white-fleshed fruits complete the lemony register and extend the tasting. The tension gradually returns on the finish, accompanied by fine bitters that bring precision to the whole. This architecture makes Les Monts Damnés 2023 a white particularly suited to the table, especially with roasted turbot, scallops, langoustines, creamy poultry, or an aged Crottin de Chavignol. A few years in the cellar should further enhance its depth and evolve its expression towards a more complex and mineral register.
