Mas de Jon - Pic Saint Loup 2024
Mas de Jon is an estate located in the heart of Pic Saint Loup, one of the most emblematic terroirs of Languedoc for producing elegant and structured red wines. Driven by a new generation of passionate winemakers, the estate relies on a mosaic of limestone soils, scree, and sandstone that give the wines a rare natural freshness under this southern climate. The vines are cultivated with deep respect for life, following a sustainable viticulture approach that prioritizes soil work, biodiversity, and reasonable yields. The proximity of the Pic Saint Loup cliffs brings a unique microclimate, with cool nights that allow for slow and aromatic ripening. Over the vintages, Mas de Jon has established itself as an essential address, capable of offering wines that are both accessible, precise, and deeply rooted in their terroir. The 2024 vintage marks a new step in this quest for balance and pure expression of Pic Saint Loup.
The Pic Saint Loup 2024 cuvée is born from a traditional blend of Syrah, Grenache, and Mourvèdre, enhanced by a bright vintage that allowed for ripe yet perfectly controlled grapes. The vines, planted on limestone slopes swept by winds, produced concentrated berries while maintaining essential freshness that contributes to the wine's tension. The harvest is manual and selective, keeping only the healthiest clusters. Vinification takes place in concrete tanks, with gentle extractions aimed at preserving tannic finesse while revealing the aromatic depth of the Mediterranean trio. Aging, carried out in tanks and large wooden vats, gives the wine a delicate patina without masking the fruit or the terroir's identity. The Pic Saint Loup 2024 thus asserts itself as a refined, harmonious cuvée, whose personality oscillates between solar intensity and structuring freshness, faithful to the Mas de Jon signature.
On tasting, the wine reveals a deep ruby robe with violet reflections that testify to its youth and vitality. The nose expresses itself generously with a bouquet of ripe black fruits, blueberry, blackberry, and blackcurrant, enhanced by notes of garrigue, thyme, pepper, and a hint of violet. On the palate, the attack is ample and juicy, supported by dense yet supple matter where the fruit shines brightly. Syrah brings aromatic drive and pepper, Grenache offers a gourmand roundness, and Mourvèdre provides structure and depth. The mid-palate is balanced, vibrant, with fine tannins and a mineral breath that stretches the whole towards a long, fresh, and slightly saline finish. This Pic Saint Loup 2024 will pair perfectly with grilled lamb chops, herb duck breast, Provençal stew, lamb tagine with prunes, roasted vegetables, or a platter of aged cheeses. It will also accompany sunny Mediterranean cuisines where it reveals its full aromatic dimension.
